Week 18

I hope you are enjoying your 3 day weekend with your family. We had a fun and busy week this week. I haven't been very good about snapping pictures with all the learning that has been happening, but here is what I have this week.

In writing, we learned how to do captions. We reviewed what a caption was and we matched captions to their pictures. We were given an animal and had to write a fact about it under the picture. Then, the students were able to draw their own animals during the week and write captions. We also did an assessment writing on what our perfect day would be.

In language arts, we worked on the word family "ap". Our sight word was "come". For those of you wanting to work on the district required sight words, there is a link on my blog. Go to the tab at the top of the page that says sight words and you can see what sight words your child needs to know. We did a Jan Brett author study this week. We read several of her books and identified the characters, setting, beginning, middle and end of each story.

In science, we learned about winter and it's physical properties.

We had fun making a snowman in a bag.

We learned about hibernation and what animals hibernate. We made bears hibernating in their caves.

In math, we finished up our addition unit. We are learning to solve addition problems in many ways and showing our work in our math journals. We enjoyed playing math games to help reinforce our learning.

We learned how to login to our Chrome books and had fun exploring the website

We also got to go to the Innovation Station and create things. I'm so sorry I forgot to take my camera with me. This is a new thing that the entire school will be doing. We get to go every other Tuesday.

We also had a visit by our counselor, Ms. Macre, who taught us a lesson about careers in preparation for EGGI week. Please don't forget to dress up next week according to the schedule.

We got to celebrate Anna's 6th birthday.

And we finished with our  week with a trip to the library and our first semester awards ceremony.
