Week 1

Welcome to Kindergarten! I'm glad you are in my class. We have such a sweet group of children in Mrs. Langham's class this year.I hope you enjoy looking at what we are learning in kindergarten. My hope is that this blog will be a resource for you to share conversation with your child about their week in school. Meet Mrs. Langham's Kindergarten class 2016-2017.

We often start our morning by playing with Play-Doh or coloring.

We began by having a circle time and introducing ourselves to each other. We shared our favorite colors too. Next, we read a story called The Monster That Came to School. We talked about the importance of having rules in the school and enjoyed making a monster puppet. Later on in the week, we reread this story and sequenced the story in pictures.

During our math time this week, we explored manipulatives and learned how to take care of them. We talked about different things we could do with them such as counting, sorting, patterning and building.

We worked on positional words in math too. We enjoyed reading and singing with Pete the Cat.

We talked about where Pete was in relationship to the bus and had fun making pictures to reflect his position.

In social studies, we really worked on the importance of having rules. Here are some of the books that we read.

We enjoyed making No David puppets.

We even read a book about lunch and carried our rules into cafeteria expectations. We created lunchboxes with the cafeteria rules in them.

During our reading time, here are some of our favorite books we read. We read for meaning and we are learning how to connect our real life experiences with the books that we read.

We also enjoyed reading classroom books on our own and with friends.

Throughout the day, we take brain breaks. The students really enjoy some of the movement songs that we do.

One of our favorite activities was reading and participating in Who Stole the Cookie from the Cookie Jar. This activity helped us to learn each other's names.

We will begin using class dojo next week as our behavior system. Your child will come home with a blue daily folder. Please be sure to empty this folder and return back to school each day. If you haven't signed up for class dojo, please refer to the blue sheet of paper that was sent home. This is completely optional. Have a safe and restful weekend!

  1. Thank you Mrs. Langham for visually walking us through the class with the pictures and the words. It feels like I am inside the class too! Great description and lovely pics of the kids and what they do.
